Yesterday, Adobe announced that it has no plans to support the Flash Player plugin on the just-announced Android OS 4.1 (a.k.a. “Jelly Bean”). The company revealed late last year that it would be halting development for Flash Player on mobile devices, and won’t be making an exception for the new Android release.

In addition, Adobe plans to stop allowing new installations of Flash Player on Android beginning August 15, and only users who have it installed before that date will continue to receive updates.

Beginning August 15^th we will use the configuration settings in the Google Play Store to limit continued access to Flash Player updates to only those devices that have Flash Player already installed. Devices that do not have Flash Player already installed are increasingly likely to be incompatible with Flash Player and will no longer be able to install it from the Google Play Store after August 15^th.

Older versions of Flash Player will be available for download from Adobe’s archives. Finally, Adobe is recommending that users uninstall the plugin from any device that will be updated to Android OS 4.1.
