Facebook reports Q3 2012 financial results: beats expectations, but $59 million net loss

On Friday, October 26th, 2012

Facebook today reported its financial results for the third quarter of 2012, announcing a revenue of $1.3 billion, which beats analyst expectations. Despite that, Facebook still reported a net loss of $59 million in the quarter. 86% of Facebook’s revenue in the quarter came from advertising, but for the first time ever, the company made money from mobile advertising, accounting for 14% of the total.

“As proud as I am that a billion people use Facebook each month, I’m also really happy that over 600 million people now share and connect on Facebook every month using mobile devices,” said Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook founder and CEO. “People who use our mobile products are more engaged, and we believe we can increase engagement even further as we continue to introduce new products and improve our platform. At the same time, we are deeply integrating monetization into our product teams in order to build a stronger, more valuable company.”

The social network says that as of September 2012, it has 1.01 billion monthly active users.
