Motorola, Google announce next generation of Droid Razr’s

On Wednesday, September 5th, 2012

The Motorola Droid Razr HD, Droid Razr Maxx HD, and Droid Razr M were announced today at a joint Google/Motorola event in New York City. With the new handsets, the companies promise the start of a new phase in their relationship—one that will focus on giving phones better battery life, more speed, and consistent Android updates as they come down from Google.

The Droid Razr M is the most impressive model, packing the largest screen possible (4.3 inches) into a footprint normally seen on a 3.5-inch display phone. Its internals are more modest: a 2000mAh battery, 1.5GHz dual-core processor, 1GB of RAM, 8GB of storage, 4G LTE connectivity, and a 1080p video camera.

The Razr HD has a 2500mAh battery that Motorola claims will get 16 hours of talk time. The Droid Razr Maxx HD (like its predecessor, the Droid Razr Maxx) claims even more battery life than the standard Razr, with 21 hours of talk time. Motorola provided no further information about the phones’ specs.

All three devices will ship “in time for the holidays” and will—eventually—run Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. The phones will initially use Android 4.0, but will be “upgradeable to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean by [the] end of 2012,” Motorola said. The Razr M will be priced at $99 with a two-year contract.
