iPhone Sales Top Nine Million, Sets New Record

iPhone-5s-5C Sales

Running up to the launch weekend of the iPhone 5s and 5c, analysts were conservatively predicting sales of somewhere between 5-8 million units. Turns, out, Apple beat even the most optimistic guess from industry watchers. Despite clear shortages of the 5s, Apple managed to sell 9 million iPhones between Friday and Sunday. That is – unsurprisingly – a record weekend.

Sadly, Apple hasn’t provided a breakdown of 5s vs. 5c sales, but, if latest usage trackers are anything to go by, 5c sales will have made up between 20-30% of sales. So that’ll be between 1.8M and 3M iPhone 5c sales. It’s worth remembering that before predicting the weekend sales figures, analysts also predicted final week figures of around 10 million units. That’s 10M between Friday last week and next Monday. It’s fair to say, Apple is smashing estimates, despite having trouble making enough iPhones to keep up with demand.

We reported earlier that iOS 7 had broken the 50% adoption rate barrier, and Apple has virtually confirmed as much. 200 million iOS devices are now running the latest version of the iPhone and iPad’s operating system.
